Artist’s statement.

‘Limbo’ contemplates what it is to exist in an indefinite and uncertain state. By portraing young protesters, Ines d’Orey proposes a reflexive perspective on a revolted and outraged generation that is, at the same time, paralyzed in a state of suspension and anticipation.

‘We’re still waiting for the fog to dissipate’ was a stencil Ines found written on a wall and thought it was perfect to describe her generation. She, then, decided to contact participants of the protest of 12th of March 2011, the biggest protest in the history of Portugal, since the revolution of 1974.

‘Limbo’ is an emotional portrait of a generation that, looking at the stage without daring to go on it, under the haze of the non-inscription, waits patiently and unpatiently for some other act. It doesn’t dare aspire to anything else than the next minute, but deeply believes that, one way or the other, something will have to change.
